Why are the bullet holes so low?

What exactly happened on 10 July 1584 is still not entirely clear. According to an old source Balthasar Gerards shot over the head of a court servant. He must have had to aim from above at an oblique angle downwards, especially since William of Orange was only 1.55 meter tall. The Murder Hall has also seen several radical alterations over the centuries.
